1950s halloween pumpkin adverts. I love the styling especially the mask in the above ads and the ballet ribbons. Also that Douglas Sirk style 50s Melodrama to the top image of the housewife serving beer. That pumpkin is total disturbia, imagine that on the table at a 50s diner party!
The design for the pumpkin dress is based on this incredible 1950s satin mid century brocade fabric that I has stored away for years. I love how the satin brocades produce an electric colour and this orange copper is so vibrant it looks like fire in the the light. Perfect for Autumn.
Its heavy and structured so a full circle skirt came naturally along with a hand draped bodice and velvet trim.

The Dress. It has a great weight and lends itself to being a winter cocktail dress with the hand draped velvet trim in brown black to match the mid century design and the huge hip bow for even more (melo) drama.
Cut to ballerina length for a formal occasion of a fall or Halloween ball.

The Styling.
I had to use the ballet ribbons from the advert, this was simply achieved by looping ribbons under my feet so that any shoe could be ballet shoes. The auburn cropped wig ties the colours in and gave that fifties 'lady' look.
Finished with local pumpkins, the copper glitter clutch and the beautiful leaves falling in the Bishops Palace park.
Some of the pictures will be turned into a vintage style advert, most likely the black and whites. I love the look of the portraits, the distant suburban housewife look. Is she planning to poison all the neighbours at the dinner party?
