Where are the garments and accessories made and how?
Every dress and product is designed, cut and sewn, one at a time in my Somerset studio. Alexandra King dresses are ONLY available direct from the website or studio in Somerset.
The 'Alexandra King for Deadly is the Female' collection is exclusively available through Deadly is the Female, Frome.
Transparency and Ethics in Alexandra King Production
I strongly believe fashion should do no harm, to the environment or to humans throughout the manufacturing process and beyond.
I also believe in balance, facts and that transparency and ethical fair production should be expected everywhere.
All of Alexandra King's dresses and accessories are designed and made at my Somerset studio.
Each garment has a label tracing the fabric, making date, care and repair, so you can make informed choices.
I source all of the fabrics and supplies from UK businesses working with Beckford Silks, James Hare Silks, Bennett silks, Tia Knight, Jaycotts, Litmans Lace, Organic Cottons and Liberty of London.
Suppliers and manufacturers that are credible in their processes.
We continue to purchase fair trade and sustainable fabrics and supplies where possible and always aim to improve on this.
We only use organic fair trade cotton or OEKO-TEX cottons
Over the next few years I aim to phase out the use of synthetics in my one of a kind designs, using these responsibly from deadstock and only where no alternative is available.
We actively ask our suppliers about their fabric sourcing and manufacturing practices.
The Environmental impact of my business is of equal importance.
I recycle any scrap fabrics into either useable pieces, or donate to the local scrap store for crafting.
I try not to waste anything, I don't over order or over make.
Yes I do love glitter and sequins but for these materials to stay on the dresses and accessories, not in the environment.
Our packaging is mainly cardboard and paper, designed to store your purchase. All can be recycled with paper or put in the compost if needed.
Any plastic packaging should be reused like dress covers.
Are Alexandra King pieces really 'one of a kind'?
If it says its 'one of a kind' on the product description then that really is the only one in the world. I rarely make more than one of the same garment.
I often use vintage fabrics or hand embellish designs with vintage trims so they can't be made in the same print or pattern again.
Your dress is truly unique and no one will ever have the same one as you. Something to treasure for a lifetime.
Garment Care
The hand crafted nature of our garments and luxury fabrics require specialist cleaning only. Your garment will have a care label and instructions on how to take care of it.
We recommend your garment or accessory is
- stored away from the light in a wardrobe
- hung with the provided padded hangers or inside the dust bag and original box
- never machine washed unless advised
- carefully cleaned with a damp sponge for spot cleaning light marks and spills.
- taken to a specialist dry cleaners where they can recommend the correct care for your garment.
- taken out every month for a party or at least fresh air to disturb any moths from munching!
We also offer all of our customers a dress preservation/repair service if ever your dress needs a little tlc. Please contact us for details and pricing.
Do you offer workshops?
Not yet but I hope to in the future.
Are you on social media?
Reluctantly yes. You can find me on Instagram @alexandraking
I try to share things here first and then there.
Do you offer work experience or placements?
Yes I have done in the past and it's great fun. We usually work on project so you have something for your portfolio by the end of your placement too.
I hope to offer placements to students again from 2027.
