Jo's Bespoke Bias Cut Silk Wedding Dress

dress before redesign by alexandra king
Jo in the original dress at her first appointment.
Jo came to me earlier this year with a wonderful commission and a vintage wedding dress found on eBay. I always like a challenge and turning a late 1970s wedding dress into something stunning was a great brief.
Jo loved the lace panel on the original dress, and even though she's look great an anything, this dress wasn't quite her dream gown. Together we designed a dress that used the lace but would be sleek and elegant.
The beautiful sea pearl from James Hare silks was used in their most luxurious heavy weight silk crepe satin. We carefully sectioned off the lace and dyed it to match the silk.
It was amazing to see the transformation from something a little frumpy to Jo's final backless gown. The rest of the dress didn't go to waste and was turned into a maxi skirt for the evening with a custom crop top.
Congratulations to Jo, she looked stunning!
