Introducing the 'fabric of the world' dress. Designed from my research into gingham.
This dress is hand draped over the bodice taking inspiration from the way women have tied gingham around their bodies. Looking at the Gullah Geechee people in the USA, Somali, South Asian and Indonesian styles of tying and knotting over the bust.
Keeping to my signature style of nipped in waists, the full skirt draws ideas from 1950s classic novelty prints with border hems. Instead a hand scripted red velvet ribbon is appliqued to the skirt reading the words fabric of the world weaves us together'.
Here are the original sketches.
