Autumn Plaid Silk Gown

Sketch for the silk plaid dress. This piece of fabric has been saved for years and it was worth waiting to design something properly for this beautiful silk. The shades are Autumn spice perfection. alexandra king plaid silk cocktail dress 2018

There was just enough fabric to design the dress with a full skirt. Initially cut to have a matching plaid bodice but in the draping process the black looked so much sharper and the border hem finished the design matching to the black in the plaid squares.
I'm always thinking how to bring something extra to the dress. Not just for the sake of it but to bring next level design to the whole structure. Sometimes leaving a dress ultra simple is right sometimes more is more.
The bow brings more extra especially with the 1950s inspired cut. I love the bold lines of the cutaway neckline and low back.
Finished with a built in tulle underskirt and of course, pockets.

Available as a one of a kind dress to buy in the ready to wear section. Click images for more details.

As with most of my dresses the styling is very simple. Rarely do I like jewelry unless its part of the design. The hoops worked as clean lines, the mask was taken from a vintage 1950s Halloween Pepsi ad and shoes, classic black stilettos. The length of the skirt may need to come up a couple of inches depending on the final wearer, Id like to see just that little more ankle.
