Textile designer Liz Clay has her studio based near Wells and exhibits at the Heritage courtyard studios.
When she first said the words 'felt' to me, memories of AS level textiles and free motion embroidery into felt with invisible fabric, came rushing back. Ever since the words 'felt' always seemed crafty rather than couture.
Liz instantly proved me wrong by boasting a beautiful portfolio of work with Balenciaga, Stella Mcartney, Christopher Kane etc. Her work is stunning beautiful, subtle and delicate like the felt feather boa pictured above.
The felts are the softest materials I have ever touched and her designs combine laces, pleating and print to create layers of texture and depth. Liz Clay's latest project is working with her photography from traveling around America with wool felt which is already looking very exciting.
