Afternoon in Bristol
Exhibition at Kit Form by Negative thinking darkroom. Wonderful darkroom prints made from all sorts of chemicals and stunning photography.
Open Mic night at The Book Cellar Stokes Croft - such a beautiful evening of beautiful words. It gave me hope and uplift. There are many incredibly talented people in Bristol, including the lady below who was wonderful.
Continuing to practice photography and bring frustrated by my lack of bravery.
Monday:
The light and colours in the field opposite the studio is distractingly beautiful.
Finishing touches to my Nieces prom dress.
The Bear final season. Some of the best writing, acting, cinematography, story telling and humanity on screen.
Tuesday:
Finished a batch of new dresses for Deadly is the Female. Classic Polka dots. Timeless.
I found a great photographer in Bristol making street portraits. Alex Daniel.
Final episode of the Bear. Beautiful.
Wednesday:
I woke up thinking about the Bear. Human connection. Working with a team. Something I'm missing. Something I got overwhelmed with 5 years ago and needed a break from. I think I'm ready to start preparing to welcome people to the studio again. A goal for 2027.
Maybe just in April, May, June when its prettiest here.

Thursday:
Cutting a new dress with a tulle base layer. I have a thing about tulle underdresses. The second version of the 'From the Source' dress is slowly coming together.
Then ....
Prom night like 2000.
The proms at my school weren't really a thing. Held in the school hall and midi dresses were the fanciest it got, maybe a strappy sandal.
I made my own dress in black with a black sequin trim, cutting around a Warehouse dress on my bedroom floor.
The following year I made another black dress with lace bust and a sequin bra underneath. The year after that I'd left school for art foundation and went to the pub in a black wrap dress.
Last night was my Niece's prom in Somerset. It was a BIG thing.
All the students leave at year 11 (15/16yrs old) to go to college, no sixth form so it's one 'leaving' celebration.
The night was all about the arrival and the parents were all there to watch, my 16 year old self was dying! Many had hired vintage sports cars, Ferraris, Trucks, Tractors, an epic green American Hot Rod, many porches and some Range rovers. You get the gist.
Gowns seemed to be the only option. Google prom dress and that is what they wore.
Some of the guys turned up with a little more style. One very lovely taupe suit, light fabric, wide legged trouser and a black patent shoe that was my favourite. Along with a pair of guys in tracksuits channeling early 90s hip hop. And in the distance was a brooding bystander who walked off the set of an 80s TV pilot. Someone's boyfriend? Someone's brother? An excluded student, whatever he had a look.
My nieces dress made her very happy and she looked beautiful. Cinderella blue in fine english tulle and appliqued with embroidered lace from James Hare silks with a cotton lining. The back strapping isn't my style but it's great for fit on ever changing bodies. She was so pretty in her dress which made all the hours of work worth it.
It got me thinking about prom again. My prom girls from a few years ago were different from this prom. Their dresses were timeless - a simple navy sequin gown, a tulle midi skirt with a vintage sequin crop top and boots, vintage 60s gowns and chiffon maxi dresses in block colours. They were dresses that could last a lifetime and would fit on the red carpet.
I would love to see more vintage, more individuality and more value. I might do a little collection of prom dresses for next year ...... ones you can hire, re-sell or rewear many times. 
Friday:
Dreaming of prom dresses. Sourcing vintage, repairing vintage, researching vintage. I'm into cottons, embroideries, wicker and bamboo crafted into beautiful things.

Saturday:
Trip to Wells and to my favourite end of the town. The Trading Post is back, a mini version of the original with very cool vintage mid century homewares and glass sourced by the fabulous taste that is Tanith.
